State Fleet Greening Efforts Nationally Recognized

State Fleet Management recognized as #40 among the  “100 Best Fleets in North America,” “Green Fleet Awards,” which were announced September 24, 2015. The Green Fleet Awards are open to all Federal, State, and Local Government Fleets in North America. The award consists of a comprehensive set of criteria specifically tailored around the challenges and requirements of the government fleet manager. 

The criteria includes fleet composition, fuel and emissions, policy and planning, fleet utilization, education, executive and employee involvement, and supporting programs. Information stemmed from over a period of several months is selected and compiled using hundreds of sources in green fleet planning and methodology. It not only functions as the assessment standards for the yearly award, but also serves as a foundation for drafting and implementing each agencies green fleet program. 

State Fleet implemented multiple policies that enforce the reduction in vehicle usage and fuel consumption, with the assistance of fuel cards, telematics and the new NREL Fleet Dash. State Fleet employs vehicle pools that reduce the size of agency fleets, such as the Downtown Fleet Motor Pool, RTD ECO Pass and Access-a-Ride and commuting van pools. Multiple agencies are also utilizing intra and interdepartmental vehicle registration sharing programs.

State Fleet offers new technologies, tips, and education through outreach programs, management staff education and driver education techniques with assistance through DPA State Risk Management.

Colorado State Fleet Management’s achievements are stand alone, however, work in orchestration with the Colorado Energy Office as well as all state agencies, local and federal programs, and private sector companies. The key for ongoing future success is to continue to build on the partnerships that already exist in order to increase the benefits for the residents of the entire State of Colorado.

 


2015 Colorado's Clean Cities Awards

Colorado State Fleet was also recognized by U.S. Senator, Michael Bennet, who is representing Colorado, for earning the statewide Petroleum Displacement and Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Award from Colorado’s Clean Cities coalitions on October 16, 2015. Senator Bennet stated that, “Your efforts are truly deserving of this recognition. Colorado is fortunate to have people like your team who dedicate their time and effort to making our air cleaner.”
